2nd day 9-2 Halloween Spooktacular Banner Hop for Special Needs Children

Welcome to the annual Halloween Spooktacular Banner Hop for Special Needs Children!
I am delighted to join with more than 3 dozen other women who have each made at least one Halloween-themed banner that will be donated to hang in the room of a medically-fragile child at Pediatric Specialty Care in Pennsylvania.

Our Hop Hostess (Ellen CardMonkey Jarvis) works at PSC’s Bucks County site as Admissions Coordinator. The Banner Hop starts there, so please be sure to circle back to the beginning to see all of the terrific banners have been made for these very special children.

Ellen shared this information with us about Pediatric Specialty Care: “PSC is a very special place where children stay either long- or short-term, typically after hospitalization.  Most are dependent on ventilators and other technology to survive. Some have been born too early or with genetic diseases or birth injuries.  Other children suffer injuries later in life that require constant care later, including brain injuries from trauma or loss of oxygen (from choking, suffocation or drowning) and spinal cord injuries.

These children and their families -- and PSC’s staff -- will be thrilled to receive the Halloween banners, to help brighten the season when their friends and siblings will be out trick-or-treating.”
Here is the banner I am sending to a child at PSC:

The banner says Happy Halloween in chipboard letters that I had in a packet. All of the pennant pieces are witches hats, cut from the Cricut Happy Haunting Cart. It is cut at 5.5 inches. I cut 30 black hats and sandwiched a piece of chipboard between to make it sturdier. I decorated the hats with paper cut from my Halloween stash. I added orange rickrack and an orange flower on the headband. I put eyes on the spider. I used a flower petal behind the cat eyes. Then to top it all o, I added stickles.  I hung each hat from a piece of black ribbon and attached it too the main ribbon with green sheer ribbon. They wanted to dangle backwards, so I attached them together with an additional piece of yellow sheer ribbon at the brim tips to each other. This seemed to help.

I Believe That There arre Angels Among Us 8-29-12

 

Oh I believe there are angels among us

Sent down to us from somewhere up above.

They come to you and me in our darkest hours.

To show us how to live to teach us how to give.

I know for myself, that I have a guardian angel watching over me as he is my very own precious child that I  lost in 1995. His  32nd birthday would have been next month. Strange how comforting it is to know that someone watches over us in so many ways.

When life held troubled times, and had me down on my knees.

There’s always been someone there to come along and comfort me.

A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand.

A phone call from a friend, just to say I understand.

Another Fairy Day Blog Hop

When you were a little girl did you did you ever dress-up like a fairy? Did you believe in fairies? I tried thinking about this and my first thought was no. I don’t think I ever dressed up as a fairy, nor could I really recall any of my Halloween outfits. I did not have a creative crafty mom, so I am sure she never made me, or even my sisters, fairy outfits. As far as believing in fairies, well I believed in the tooth fairy of course, because she brought me money. LOL  

I think the only fairy that I really thought of as a fairy was the Good Witch Glinda. I know, she really wasn’t a fairy, but I thought of her as a fairy godmother for Dorothy.  Although Glinda is not actually a fairy, I thought I would give you a sneak peek of a Wizard of Oz book that my BFF, Gina, and I are working on. This page is Glinda appearing in the Land of Munchkins. Glinda is from Graphic 45 paper.  The bubble is a crystal ball stamp, which I stamped on velum and embossed in light blue.  The flowers were all stamped, embossed in clear, and some colored with Copics, then bling added. The Munchkins were stamped in black and embossed in clear, then colored with Copics I found the Munchkin stamp on eBay. I was so excited!!! Lots of coloring and definitely a lot of cutting, but well worth it for the end project.

Therefore, my fairy life as a child was pretty much non-existent.  As an adult, I have to say that my all time favorite fairy is Tinkerbell. I even have a “Slow Pixies at Play” sign hanging over my craft room doorway. Of course, it was a definite "must buy" on a trip through Disneyland. 

I  thought of making something with her in mind, but then thought, hmm, what else could I come up with instead of what would be a different fairy to make? 

Several months ago, I bought a Memory Box tree frame die. I punched out several of these frames in a couple of different glitter paper colors. My BFF, Gina, and I decided that this die would look great with her new B Line stamp of a girl on mushroom, wings not included. We chose some Memory Box 6x6 paper and stamped the image directly on quite a few different papers with different results. Gina took hers home and finished them up, but mine went into a "later to do box." Not as procrastination, just something for a day when I have extra play time.  I decided that this was going to be my project for this hop. Although I don't do too many fairy items, I decided to play around with this image and see how it would look. I used some wings from another B line stamp, actually a little kid dressed up as a bee. I tried using glitter on velum for the wings, but that didn’t work, so I used pink embossing powder. I actually liked how it turned out. I made a slit right behind her dress and slid the wings through, so they would pop up on the card. I used Copics on the image.  I chose the bronze colored tree frame, using the Therm-O-Web's Sticky Dots adhesive sheet. It's the best invention for die cuts! I buy it at Michael's when it's on sale or with a coupon.I stuck it down around the image and then cut out around the frame. There is actually another die you can buy to do this, but I am too cheap to spend money on something that I can easily cut out. I would rather use the money for another intricate die. Then I just attached it to a card stock card.

I bought his glitter paper by the roll, at Paper Source. Of course, I had to have every color. It is absolutely stunning in person. It is thin, so is great for the intricate parts of the dies.

I'm Ready for Summer

Hi everyone! I am ready for summer! We have had so much rain, I just need some sunshine and maybe a trip back to the beach a few times to enjoy the sun and sand.

I was inspired to join in on some fun after I visited the DeNami Design's Casual Friday's blog page. They have a different challenge each week. This week's challenge  is to create a Clean and Simple project using Polka Dots. 

Well, it made it easier for me to come up with something after going to their annual warehouse sale, yesterday, and finding two perfect stamps to use. (Well, I did find more than two to buy, but who's counting right? LOL) Luckily, I only live about 4 miles from the warehouse. Both of my BFF’s went with me too. We found some fun stamps at the sale. What a great deal!  I wanted the sandal stamp and was going to purchase it, but I found it in the box! Lucky me!!! The items in the sale were gently used stamps, but this one was in great condition.  I also found a sand castle.  Two perfect stamps for the card I wanted to make.

The card that I made was used with polka dot papers out of my stash. The sentiment is a Rosie Road Show stamp and fit with the card so well I had to use it. I punched out the sentiment with one of my Stampin’ Up punches.  I first stamped the sandals all out on polka dot paper and then cut them out. I used my sticky red double back tap and added sand from the actual Pacific Ocean beach that I brought home in April when we went on our annual vacation there, for my husband’s birthday.  I stamped the sand castle on gray paper and colored the door and windows with a Copic pen. I first stamped the sand castle on the paper and then cut the gray one out and popped it up. I used Copic pens to color the flags.  I used a corner punch on the top sheet of paper, then rounded the other corners of the polka dot papers beneath it. I attached everything to a yellow  1/2 sheet card stock card.

We're Off to See the Wizard Trvisted Blog Hop 6-1-12

We're Off to See the Wizard the wonderful Wizard of Oz to hopefully get the Tin Man a heart, the Lion courage, and the Scarecrow a brain! But there's the poppy fields to beware of as you could get very sleepy! The Wicked Witch but we know she's afraid of water. The flying monkeys . . . just totally freaky looking!!!! You're probably still dizzy from the spinning whirling twirling house and watching all those things passing by like a nightmare especially that Miss Gulch on her bicycle! Poor Toto hiding in the basket, but can you blame him? Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain as he knows not what he speaks! And then there are the delightful munchkins that sing 3 octaves highly than humanly possible. I almost forgot the good witch Glinda - how could I forget her --- she was just too sugary sweet for my standards but as a Good Witch goes, she was the best, but why didn't she just tell Dorothy she had the power to return all along instead of waiting until the end - geesh!  And then only bad witches are ugly --- come on now! It’s the Merry Old Land of Oz! I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore Toto. . . .

We're paying homage to the Wizard of Oz today with our blog hop! So, grab your beverage of choice and those ruby red slippers of yours, click them twice and repeat after me - "there's no place like home, there's no place like home"!

For my first project, I am posting some WOO cards that I made.

My second project is a WOO book.  I took the class at Impress, taught by the talented Lavonne for the WOO book. She has such a special talent I hate missing any of her classes. She inspires me and gives me such great ideas to think outside f the box.

The book was made using Graphic 45’s Wizard of Oz collection. I love this paper collection.
It would be unheard of to take a Lavonne class without hours of cutting out things, so detail scissors are a must item to bring to class. She also has us eboss all of the stamping. It shows up better and has more of dramatic look to it.

As every good story, it has a beginning and a happily ever after - Dorothy went home and all was well with the world and Dorothy told Auntie Em - there's no place like home!!!!!! AWWWW how sweet! I hope you enjoyed my project and I must send you along your way to Amy or maybe Rhonda, if Amy doesn't post and a place beyond the rainbow!

5/24/12 - Fast Food Take Out Blogaversary Party

I am participating in a special hop today. It is Lynne's Blogaversary. She is a great lady with so much talent. I am glad to call her my bloggie friend and have been so thankful for her friendship this last year.

For my fast food project, I made two of these cards inviting each of my BFF's out for our favorite Mexican food. You can order from here and take out, but we LOVE their cabbage, salsa, and chips. So we prefer eating in, so we can gorge our bellies!

The cactus and chili pepper are both Sizzix die cuts. I ran them both through embossing folders to give them texture too.  The sun is stamped and embossed. I distressed the edge with my fun electric edger.

 

 The inside issue paper is from the chips basket. i took it from the last time I had been at the restaurant, then inserted it into each card.

 I stamped, embossed, and cut out a "admit one" ticket.

 I used letter stamps to put my question in the card and embossed the letters.

Butterflies Are Free Blog Hop

Have you ever watched a butterfly just casually meandering and fluttering by - it look so peaceful, tranquil and free! They get to land where they want, smell all the flowers and just let the world pass them by. The colors of the butterfly are magnificent with seeming to be no two alike!!!!

My project for you today is butterfly cards made over the last year. I can't take credit for all of the designs, that would have to include my 2 BFF's - Gina and Laura - my stampers in crime. We trade off having workshops together, each picking a theme, such as butterflies, birds, glitter, shrink art, etc. Then we get together at each others house to make cards. The one hosting is responsible for design and supplies. We try to do at least one every month, but sometimes more, depending on schedules. Sorry, but I can't remember all of the stamp company names or papers used, but please do enjoy!!!
