Whimsical Christmas and New Year's Blog Hop Dec. 28th and 29th

Welcome to the Whimsical Christmas and New Year’s Blog Hop!  You should have come from Jessica’s blog.  If you are starting here and wish to hop from the beginning of the hop, please visit Jessica’s blog. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this blog hop that will include projects that are not the traditional holiday colors, but instead the beautiful colors that are another option. There were so many items that were such an inspiration for this hop at the stores this year.  Since this was a Seattle card and it is the emerald city, I should have used green, but I didn't have the same choices of papers in green, so I chose to use pink. I love the way this card turned out. It is beautiful in person.

I used two Impress Rubber stamps for this card. I stamped and embossed the Seattle skyline image, then for the colors I used various Copics and completed it with stickles. The corners were punched with an EK success corner punch.  I then placed it on top of the pink sparkle paper, which is Braun + Company glitter gift wrap, from Paper Source.  It is beautiful paper that I bought on a roll. It came in various colors and I had to get them all. LOL.  The sentiment stamp was stamped in pink and embossed. I distressed the edge with pink ink and placed it on the same pink glitter paper. The background paper is from a Recollection’s Christmas pack.  I used my distress tool for the edges. My BFF loved this tool, so I bought her one for Christmas. She was ecstatic about the gift. It is so fun to use, but a bit noisy. The ribbon is Celebrations from Michaels. It is all mounted on a piece of pink card stock.

  

The inside had to be done too. I used piece of the same paper for the top part of the card.  I added a piece of bright green card stock, and then added the same ribbon as on the front.  I punched snowflakes out of the same Recollections paper pack, with a Martha Stewart snowflake punch, but only used the center of the snowflake. I used an EK punch out of the pink glitter paper. The Happy Holiday and Ho Ho Ho are both K & Company.

Secret Sister Blog Hop Dec. 5th

Merry Christmas and thank you for stopping by our hop today as we reveal the wonderful projects we have made for our "Secret Sisters". With blog hopping and crafting, we have all become sisters. What was done -- those of us were interested we given a "Secret Sister"  to craft something special. Not only do we have a Secret Sister but we also gave some "hints" as to Our Favorite Things. How special is that. Now, ssshhhhhh, please don't tell our Secret Sisters as it hasn't been revealed yet as to who has who while you hop along with us!!!!

 For my secret sister, I made a mini album. There is plenty of room to add pictures and journaling. Each page has a tag that is inserted and pulls out. It has one side for a picture and the journaling on the other side.  I used a Memory Box stamp for the journal tags. The papers are an array of printed papers. I went to the cabinet and pulled out every piece of purple paper that I could find for the album. For the tags, I had to resort to some pinks too, because I didn't have enough solid purple paper choices. On each page I added some bling, buttons, K&Company stickers, and ribbon. I added ribbon to all of the tags and also to the 3 rings. The cover is a one page of chipboard, which I cut in half and covered with paper. I used a 1/2 circle punch to punch the hole so the tags could be pulled out.

 Cover up close. I put a fairy and dream sticker on the cover. I added a button , to appear like a knob, but it isn't. I also added a purple gem in the O of  LOVE. The love was already on the paper that I chose.

This is the back cover. I used an EK punch for my label.

I have sent her an email for her address. Thanks everyone for participating in the blog hop. It was fun making a faux Hello Kitty. I actually ordered the real  Hello kitty Sizzix die today on a sale. So now I can make her up and dress her in all sorts of clothes. LOL
 

9-11 Remembrance Hop Blog Candy Winner

My husband and I were married (35 years ago today) on September 11, 1976. We were in Vegas, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, when we woke and turned on the tv we thought it was a movie...until we realized it was on all the channels. We jumped into clothes and went to the lobby of the motel, where people from all over the world just stood watching the big screen coverage...not even a slot machine made a sound...we walked across the bridge between excalibur and new york, new york...where someone had placed an american flag. A mid-eastern man who spoke in broken english, with tears running down his face, fingered the flag and then looked at us, "but this is America." he said and sobbed. People were already placing things on the fence surrounding The New York New York casino and vegas was silent.

It took us another week to find a way home - and three days before we could contact our sons on a North Carolina army base...Our personal lives, as well as the nations, stood still.

A story many Americans experienced during that time.  I know that my daughter chose to work in NY at a kids camp that summer and had just arrived back home a few days before the event. She had toured both the towers and the Pentagon, after her work assignment was finished. She had thought about going to Europe for college graduation with her two best friends, but didn't have the money. They returned to the states on the 10th and were waiting in line to buy tickets to see a show. They saw the plane crashes into the tower and watched them fall. They were stuck in NJ and finally rented a car and drove back home to WA state. They had talked about doing site seeing and going to the Towers like my daughter did, amongst other spots, but were not headed there until that afternoon. 

Thank you all for leaving your stories and words of compliments on my project. I might need to make one more so that both of my grandsons can have one when they grow up.

9-11's10th Anniversary Remembrance Blog Hop

Welcome to a blog hop devoted to the remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th. If you just happened up my blog, then you are at the beginning of the hop.

The terrorist attack against our nation, which happened a decade ago, is a long time for some.  However for many, the day feels all too close. The deeply seared memories of the human sufferings and acts of heroism, which took place on that day, changed our nation.

The nation was in shock when terrorists decided to hijack our airplanes and turn them into weapons.  It was beyond anyone’s belief that something so horrific could happen on our own soil.  It would be one thing if it were just the destruction of the Twin Towers or damage to the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, PA, but almost 3,000 people perished, from the attack, leaving a scar on the sole of America.

Americans came together as one, in the emotional aftermath of 9-11. We were united by grief, had compassion for those who died along with their families, and showed loyalty to our country.

Please join the country in a moment of silence on Sunday morning, at 8:46 (Eastern Time). This should be a time to reflect on what we all lost, as well as on the courage and common purpose that lived and still resides, deep within the American people.

Now on to my project. I have made a book. My two BFF's and I get together about twice a month to work on projects. We get to pick the theme. So, I can't take the credit for the design, that would go to my BFF, Gina. She did all of the research for the book and designed the layout. Her husband provided all of the pictures. This is definitely a book that will be handed down in my family, as a remembrance of that tragic day, 10 years ago. 

The pages are all a 6 x 8 size, with a chipboard front and back cover of 7x9. The sticker embellishments are K&Company as well as the paper. For some of the borders we used a Martha Stewart punch. The pennant banner was made with a triangle punch and one was made with a stamp.  Some of the others were made with the Cricut, such as the heart border on the bottom of the 1st page.  Some of the basic shapes were cut on the Cricut using the George and Basic Shapes Cart.  The square letters were made from stamping letters on inches and dabbing with SU refill bottled ink.

I have to say that it was incredibly emotional making this book. Reliving the experience of the time. I was unaware that so many memorials had been erected since the tragic day. Maybe because I am on the west coast and not near the memorials, I didn't realize so many had been made or even the  magnitude of each one.  I hope that some day I will be able to visit at least one of the memorials.
