9-11's10th Anniversary Remembrance Blog Hop

Welcome to a blog hop devoted to the remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th. If you just happened up my blog, then you are at the beginning of the hop.

The terrorist attack against our nation, which happened a decade ago, is a long time for some.  However for many, the day feels all too close. The deeply seared memories of the human sufferings and acts of heroism, which took place on that day, changed our nation.

The nation was in shock when terrorists decided to hijack our airplanes and turn them into weapons.  It was beyond anyone’s belief that something so horrific could happen on our own soil.  It would be one thing if it were just the destruction of the Twin Towers or damage to the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, PA, but almost 3,000 people perished, from the attack, leaving a scar on the sole of America.

Americans came together as one, in the emotional aftermath of 9-11. We were united by grief, had compassion for those who died along with their families, and showed loyalty to our country.

Please join the country in a moment of silence on Sunday morning, at 8:46 (Eastern Time). This should be a time to reflect on what we all lost, as well as on the courage and common purpose that lived and still resides, deep within the American people.

10 of us blogging friends would like you to join in this day of remembrance, by stopping by each blog to see a project made for the tenth anniversary of 9-11.

If you get lost along the way, here is the lineup:
  1. Tami - http://tamboscreations.blogspot.com/   <<<you are here>>>

I will choose the winner through random.org and announce the winner by Tuesday, Sept. 13th.

Your next stop on the hop is Lynne.

Now on to my project. I have made a book. My two BFF's and I get together about twice a month to work on projects. We get to pick the theme. So, I can't take the credit for the design, that would go to my BFF, Gina. She did all of the research for the book and designed the layout. Her husband provided all of the pictures. This is definitely a book that will be handed down in my family, as a remembrance of that tragic day, 10 years ago.

The pages are all a 6 x 8 size, with a chipboard front and back cover of 7x9. The sticker embellishments are K&Company as well as the paper. For some of the borders we used a Martha Stewart punch. The pennant banner was made with a triangle punch and one was made with a stamp.  Some of the others were made with the Cricut, such as the heart border on the bottom of the 1st page.  Some of the basic shapes were cut on the Cricut using the George and Basic Shapes Cart.  The square letters were made from stamping letters on inches and dabbing with SU refill bottled ink.

I have to say that it was incredibly emotional making this book. Reliving the experience of the time. I was unaware that so many memorials had been erected since the tragic day. Maybe because I am on the west coast and not near the memorials, I didn't realize so many had been made or even the  magnitude of each one.  I hope that some day I will be able to visit at least one of the memorials.

Now please go see what everyone else has created in this day of remembrance. Your next stop on the hop is Lynne.

I am entering this project in the:

SweetSassyDiva Design Challenge: Remembering Honoring 911

  2. What a wonderful idea to commemorate this historical event that is forever etched in our memories. You did a fantastic job on this album and what a legacy you are leaving for your heirs. I daresay that your album covers more information about the events of that day than will the history books that will be read by future generations. Bravo!

  4. Humbled and speechless are the two words that come to mind when I look at your album. You did an amazing job.

My husband and I were married (35 years ago today) on September 11, 1976. We were in Vegas, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, when we woke and turned on the tv we thought it was a movie...until we realized it was on all the channels. We jumped into clothes and went to the lobby of the motel, where people from all over the world just stood watching the big screen coverage...not even a slot machine made a sound...we walked across the bridge between excalibur and new york, new york...where someone had placed an american flag. A mid-eastern man who spoke in broken english, with tears running down his face, fingered the flag and then looked at us, "but this is America." he said and sobbed. People were already placing things on the fence surrounding The New York New York casino and vegas was silent.

It took us another week to find a way home - and three days before we could contact our sons on a North Carolina army base...Our personal lives, as well as the nations, stood still.

  6. i was at work when this happened -the day was spent around the TV. We had a co-worker visiting those areas and was in worry where she was. She was at the pentagon store and saw many things she says will be with her forever! Your book will be a wonderful memory for many generations to come when one day these events will be in their history books! doris

  7. I was also at work when this happened but when we heard the news, I was horrified. I remember going home on my lunch hour and watching it on TV with my husband. I cried for days and weeks. I also remember how patriotic our country was in the months following. Everyone had flags flying and so many had them on their cars too. I wish we all still carried on with that tradition today.

  18. You did a wonderful job on this book; very touching. All of the ladies made such appropriate tributes. On that day in 2001, I was driving in my car with my daughter, only 12 at the time; we were on the way to a funeral for a close family friend who passed on 9/9. September 11 was the funeral, and by time we had reached the funeral home, the second plane had crashed. I remember walking into the funeral home and going straight to my brother. I whispered in his ear that I thought we had a world changing event occuring, and told him briefly what happened. After the funeral, we all returned to the home of the deceased and spent the rest of the day glued to the TV. --Pat N.

  21. I hopped back by to have another look..trying to soak everything in and I just wanted to add that I think it is great that you have 2 BFF's to do your albums with. As hard as they are to look at I think the images that you have chosen to post to your album are a necessity for us. I think the brain has such a hard time processing the bad but it needs to remember and the images help us do that..went to church this morning and thanked God that I still live in America where there are many, many people who believe in Him and the principles that He wants us to live by..

  22. Your book is beautiful. I am married to an Aburn Hills firefighter and he was on duty that day. I was so scared for all the men and women who were murdered and the rescuers who put them in harms way to help save even just one person. Your book will be a unique and beautiful keepsake for generations. Its so easy and fun to scrap the fun and happy times but to take your time and scrap a very sad day in our nations history....I am in awe, thank you!

  23. On September 11,2001 I was a Junior in High School and our youth Pastor walked into the chapel where we started each school day and I'll never forget the look on his face when he walked in. He sent the little kids outside to play and told the rest of us what happened. He cried as he told us and we all got down on the floor and started praying.

I love your memorial book, I think that is an amazing and beautiful thing. You did a great job. Thanks so much for sharing this. I love how you included pictures and info on all the memorials.

  30. What a wonderful tribute to such a painful part of our history. I remember exactly where I was. The Friday before 9/11 was my last day of work, so I was home. That morning I took a walk since it was such a beautiful morning. When I came home I started cleaning my bathroom but I had the Today show on. I turned around and looked at the tv at the same moment my phone rang and it was sister telling me what happened. At first I couldn't believe it. How could someone be so stupid and fly into a huge building. I was talking to my sister when the 2nd plane crashed into the 2nd building.

  32. Your book is incredible! It is a beautiful documention and work of art! Thanks for sharing. I was at the doctor that day and had another right afterwards. As we were leaving a doctor almost knocked us down tring to get to leave. He said " I'm sorry, I've got to get to my wife she is over there." We did not understand at that point what had happened. 10 minutes later we knew. Mom and I were worried about Pop. He had worked there and was waitting to be told when to go back. He would have been on the 82nd floor. He knew a lot of people there. I am thankful he didn't get told to come back. It was a very hard day for all. I'll never forget. 33. People heal in different ways. I hope making your beautiful album was a healing experience for you. I was on a conference call with fellow employees and customers. Some of the people on the phone were in 7 World Trade, and had no idea that anything even happened. My TV was on (I work from Home), I told them what was happening, and to get out. Not all of them made it.

  36. Forgot to tell you that I was at home that day. I have an in-home daycare. My friend (who also does daycare) called me when the first plane hit. We talked through it as she watched it unfold on tv. I did not want my kids to see the images, so I waited until my helper arrived. That day at nap time, I went into the back yard and planted tulip bulbs for those who died. I looked up as I saw President Bush fly over my house to Offutt AirForce Base (about 15 miles from my house) and that freaked me out. My husband was in LA on business and was scheduled to fly home that evening. He was stranded for 3 days. He was lucky they all kept their hotel rooms and arrived home (alive) safely!

I also wasn't aware of how many different memorials were built. That is awesome. I was at home when I found out. My mom called to let me know before work about the tragedy that had happened.
